Charmonix
Although our trip to Charmonix was unplanned, it was one of our favorite parts of France. It is absolutely freezing at night so staying in the van was out of the question. We had to splurge and spend a few nights indoors.
“Words can’t even describe our time in Charmonix” - Yehuda.
Our first day there we went up Mont Blanc. The mountains all around were huge with their tallest peaks covered in snow! We knew this was going to be a really special experience.
On the cable car we took there were two stops - one halfway up the mountain and the other to the tippy top. We decided to go all the way up first. Our trip up was terrifying - we were going so high and the village below kept getting smaller. At one point we started swinging and there was a collective “ahhhhh” as we all freaked out together. Thank god we went in the same car as a church group who was praising god the whole way up.
When we got to the top it was breathtaking, not only because of how absolutely freezing it was, but because we were standing above the clouds and could see into three countries. The views were absolutely magnificent. Snow covered peeks surrounded us on all sides. Peaks that aren’t even visible from down below jumped out at us as we looked all around. We made sure to explore every inch of the mountain and had a blast doing it together. Finally after about an hour and a half, it had gotten too cold for us and we took the cable car down to the first stop. At the first stop there were a bunch of hiking trails, so we decided to take one that led us to Lac Bleu. The GLAKE - glacier lake (not a real term) was stunning. The water was crystal clear! You could actually see the mountain peaks where the snow melts from in order to fill up this lake. Yehuda decided he was going to go in. He stripped down to his undies and dove right in!! As he dove in, everyone around the lake started applauding him, it was really cute. He was so happy he was able to experience something this extreme. (If you want the video of it reach out - we’re happy to share). When he came out he quickly dried himself off, did Wim Hoff, and bundled himself right back up. We continued hiking and eventually made our way back to the cable car to head back down the mountain.
When we landed back on planet earth, we strolled around Charmonix for a while. It’s an adorable little town with lots of sport oriented spaces. There’s a ton of information and areas for skiing, hiking, paragliding and more.
